Contextual advertisement is about displaying your advertisements targeting brand
promotion or traffic purchase to your website. We can display our advertisement on
websites & web pages (including mobile) with relative information to our
products/services. Creative & media planning are the main function in contextual
advertising.
Major contextual network available for advertisements globally are Google’s Adsense
Network
, Yahoo Publishing Network and MSN Network. There are more networks
with limited reach to specific countries and region. Advertisement formats vary with
the inventory possibilities of network, Google for sure have the broadest spectrum of
ad formats.
Google Network that pays publishers by Adsense and charging advertisers by
Adwords is a sophisticated and widespread platform for Internet Marketing as of now.
Advertisers submit their ads, keywords or preference of websites and their bids to
Adwords with choice of geographical region, which are shown in websites of
publishers selected by content and every click on ad generate revenue for publisher.
Starting CPC(Cost per Click) is very low as compared to YPN & MSN, but create
confusion too.

Adsense is definitely the most powerful tool that helps Google to become
undisputed king of Internet. With Adsense Google involve millions of web designers
and webmasters who most of the time mentor the advertising community to the
Internet.
Yahoo Network Yahoo publishing network popular as YPN, on the pattern of
Google Network is providing facility of advertising on websites associated.
Articulation of YPN is restricted to US as of now, but expected and anticipated to cover
more parts of world soon. Advertisers use YSM(Yahoo Search Marketing) to place
ads on these YPN websites as well SERPs(Search Engine Result Pages). Starting
CPC is higher than Google Adwords but Lower than MSN adcenter.
YPN is a threat to Google, growing at a slow pace. The most threatening feature on
YPN to Adsense is ‘being soft’ on invalid clicks. In YPN such clicks are simply being
ignored, but Adsense punish such publishers by getting their account disabled and
banning them for further participation. This termination of Adsense account is making
publisher community feeling insecure and incline to YPN.
MSN Network MSN adcenter provides an opportunity on displaying your
advertisements on Microsoft’s proprietary websites and participating websites like
MSN Tech & Gadgets, Lifestyle, education, Astrology, Romance etc. Ads are
displayed with the relevant content for target audience. There are no open
association of webmasters with MSN.
Though Microsoft’s bread and butter don’t come from online ads, but bursting
revenues of Google is keeping MSN restless. The biggest mistake MSN committed
so far is not involving the web community in its publishing network. The intention of
procuring 100 percent ad revenue from ads have restricted MSN to gain support from
Internet marketers. Once they start sharing ad revenue with publishers, Google for
sure will loose most of his market share in search industry.
